American Association of Critical-Care Nurses San Diego 2015

Think just a DSLR is enough to become a photographer??

Photography has become a new passion among youngsters these days. You may find every other person having a DSLR camera, thinking that it’s all they need to have to become a professional photographer. But that’s not all, here are a few photography details that every photographer needs to know.

Now, let us know what Event Photography is. It’s nothing but taking pictures at a place where people have gathered for a purpose, for e.g. wedding, press release, music launch, book launch, birthday party etc.

What you should keep in mind while clicking at events: Learn how to use your equipment from a professional because if you deal with it clumsily it’s going to show. Anything can happen at an event so you need to be spontaneous enough to capture anything that comes your way. Know how to do adjustments with your camera and your shots will not be missed. Go for unique angles, don’t ask anyone to pose for you, instead try and take candid shots (the person being shot is not aware that he’s being clicked or we can say natural shots) at events. If it’s a concert try to capture the musician and if it’s a wedding take close-ups and pictures from different angles of the bride and groom.

Similarly taking pictures at a business event or covering a conference meet is termed as Conference Photography or Seminar photography. It’s kind of monotonous and mundane to capture the sponsors, speakers, food and venue as compared to event photography. But the photography should have the skill in order to turn a boring snap into a lively picture.

Tips for Conference Photography

  • Get Early to your location so that you have time to get familiar with the place and find out the lighting conditions of the venue and different angles from where you can get perfect shots.
  • Carry all your accessories even if you feel they will be of no use. Batteries, power cords, multiple hard drives, memory cards, card readers, tripod, lenses for every focal length, speedlight etc. should be kept handy. Arrange all the equipments in a bag that has multiple openings and enough space so that the items don’t get damaged in any way.
  • Be Aware and active to know what’s going to come up next and keep yourself prepared to take quick shots of the happenings around you.
  • Be Patient enough for moments to take place by themselves and then click. Observe people and their gestures. Observe the spokespeople; set your shutter speed accordingly.

Photography is something that you cannot be planned; it just happens spontaneously and thus requires a degree of openness to cope with new opportunities. It allows you to explore and enjoy many aspects of life and know people, places as well as objects from a different prospective. So just go with the flow and let the magic happen.
